Hey folks, I'm back from my trip to Northumberland and I'm busy catching up on email and updates. Amongst the goodies is this yummy trailer for Rachel Kramer Bussel's new anthology PASSION: EROTIC ROMANCE FOR WOMEN. Check it out!

Talk about a collection of stories to make you squirm in your seat! Chilly fall night or a quick pick-me-up to get in the mood—this is the one...

First is Third Time’s The Charm by Charlene Teglia. This was my first foray into the world of Ms. Teglia, but it won’t be my last. The heat sizzles in this short little story of confusion and redemption. I loved Nick. He’s not perfect, but he’s honest and from the vision I got from reading the description, he’s yummy. Lynn came across as a bit cranky, but I understood and liked how she grew through the experience. Plus, who said elevator sex isn’t hot?

I also loved No Risk, No Reward by Saskia Walker. What if you had to say goodbye to the one person who made you tick, the one who got you out of yourself? Would you do something crazy? I loved how the narrator pined over the man she loved. It was sweet to read her reminiscing. I felt like I was there in the Land Rover with her, struggling to decide what to do about Cameron. He’s forthright, but it’s good because he takes charge. The ending left me sighing and panting. Yeah, it’s that hot.

Wooohoo! :D

I'm not about much at the mo, for various reasons, but I'm also not far off the half way point on my novel (a couple more days) and will post about progress and whatnot then.

A new week

It’s the start of a new week, and I’m feeling goooood. :) Last week was productive. I’ve got a new short story on the go, (alongside the other short story and the novella that are already on the go. Seriously, I work best this way!) and I’m feeling comfortable with my schedule again after an uneven couple of months.

I've discovered that for some reason I achieve most when I stay away from word counts, meters, writing challenges, and so on. I’m a very social person, but when it comes to writing I thrive with my workload when I’m simply left playing in my own sandpit. Maybe it’s something to do with being an only child. Whatever it is, I don’t seem to have the competing gene. I’ve tried to do several types of challenges and it just doesn’t work for me.

I’m slowly getting used to the idea that RECKLESS is shipping early. LOL! This book means a lot to me and I feel like I should be standing by in my best outfit, proud and glowing, on publication day. The date has, however, snuck up on me while I’ve been getting ready for the RWA conference and pushing forward with the current WiP. I’m watching out for my author copies though, because then I can jump up and down and squeal and celebrate :) We have a few days away in North Wales coming up next week, but I'll be at home for the official release date.

In other news, July's edition of SCARLET magazine features one of my short stories (more on that soon) and two editors I love and respect have asked if they could use some of my writing. Needless to say I'm absolutely thrilled with all these things going on. The editors enquiries in particular felt like a great compliment, so that’s all good. More news on that soon.

Various Amazon stuff

Several of you have mailed me regarding the cover of The Strangeling that’s up on Amazon and various other sites. Yes, my name is wrong on the cover, and the publisher is onto the error. Things over at the publishing house have been hectic, what with the launch of the Juno line this month and the fact the publisher has been busy winning awards at World Fantasy Con :) The whole Strangeling cover is going to be very different and should be going up soon. I’ll post it here too, as soon as I can.

Now, onto something else. I don't tend to rant much here (or indeed in real life) but I am feeling a bit ranty or maybe... “WTF?” would be a better way to describe what I’m feeling. ;) I want to say something about Amazon blog/plogs. I know a few people who call by here use the system so I’m hoping someone will tell me I'm not alone in being wary of the thing, or that it really does help and is worth doing. You see, I just don’t feel.... well, all warm and cuddly about it, or something…

I’m coming up to my one-year anniversary running this blog, and I’ll post some thoughts about the whole blogging thing then. Amazon blogging feels very different to me though. I started it because I was encouraged to use it as a promo source by Penguin. The info they sent was an Amazon mailshot stating that author blogging on book pages increases sales. How do they know, I ask myself? Proving what increases book sales is a notoriously difficult thing to do. Anyway, that’s by-the-by to my concerns here. I decided to give it a shot. First up, it feels odd to me because I’m posting on a big public site. (I sometimes feel like that commenting on other people's blogs, a me-quirk perhaps. It's just the whole thing about posting something that instantly appears on someone else's website.) I’m also not entirely sure about where the posts appear, should it be before reviews, after? But anyway, I ignored the doubts. So far, I’ve only got a couple of posts up there, what with not getting warm and fuzzy and all that. Then I noticed the commenting and scoring thing. Did you like this post? Hilarious! It’s never going to be useful to everyone, especially if we just blog/plog about what we’re up to in life. But then I noticed that someone had not only said they didn't like my post, they had added a reason why. Didn't like it because “don’t know the author.”

The irony really hit me, since they were on a page with a helluva of a lot of info about me, reviews, links to bio, excerpt, favourites, you name it, but they took the time out to say it wasn’t useful because they don’t know me. I’m not saying they should know me, or that my post was useful and they are wrong, but it seemed to highlight the fact that the whole system is somehow kind of odd to me; it just doesn’t make too much sense. I never seek out Amazon blog/plogs the way I do with regular blogs or journals, I just happen on them, and maybe that’s why they often seem out of place. Does anyone else feel this way? Or do you think I’ll eventually get used to the whole thing? :) Maybe even feel warm and fuzzy…one day…?
